Paramedics take on busy summer weekend

It was another hot and dry weekend in Prince Albert and with that comes extra calls to emergency services.

Parkland Ambulance Paramedics have seen an increase in heat related illness and are reminding the public to drink plenty of water, to stay as cool as possible and to take frequent bathes or showers.

A weekend of rushing 

Over the weekend paramedics attended 95 emergency calls. 

On Saturday morning just after 9 a.m. paramedics responded to a motor vehicle accident near the Highway 11 and Highway 2 Junction.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital in good condition. 

The collision is still under investigation and the name of the deceased has not yet been released.

Paramedics rushed out to Fenton Ferry when they got a call that someone was in the South Saskatchewan River  Saturday evening, just after 5 p.m.

Paramedics declared the man dead when they arrived.

Prince Albert RCMP and the Provincial Coroner’s office are investigating the case.  

Assaults in the area

Just before 5 a.m. on Saturday morning paramedics responded to an assault on the Wahpeton Reserve. A 27-year-old man suffered injuries and was taken to hospital in good condition.

At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday paramedics responded to an assault in the Christopher Lake area. A 29-year old man was taken to hospital with injuries and is said to be in good condition.

Sunday morning at 2:45 a.m. paramedics responded to an assault in the 1300 block of Second Avenue West. A 20-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

About an hour before that, at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, paramedics responded to an assault in the 400 block of 13th Street West. A 35-year-old female suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
