Rick Ducommun, a Prince Albert-born actor best known for his role in “The Burbs” with Tom Hanks, has died.

He was 62. He died a week ago in a Vancouver hospital of diabetic complications.

His biography on his IMBd profile says he grew up on a farm but didn’t get along with his father. He ran away at the age of 14, hitchhiking around the northern U.S. before returning to Canada to Vancouver. While there, he was dared to do stand-up and found himself drawn to entertainment.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote in an obituary that Ducommun got his start in L.A. because of Alan Thicke, who saw him on a Canadian kids show ZigZag.
