Curtis Hunt likely to be named as Raiders’ next GM

Jun 5, 2015 | 2:41 PM

In the search for their new general manager, the Prince Albert Raiders looked back into the pinnacle of their history.

Curtis Hunt, who won the 1985 Memorial Cup with the Raiders, will hope to bring them back there as the team’s general manager.

The Raiders said they will officially make a “major hockey operations announcement” at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, but would not comment further on the matter until then.

Sources from outside the team suggest that Hunt will be the next general manager.

Tyler King of Fort McMurray Today confirmed on Friday that Hunt has resigned from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, after a year on the job, and has also heard from several sources that Hunt is headed to P.A.

Hunt has coached eight years in the WHL, accruing a 262-245-23-46 record over eight seasons, including six years with the Regina Pats in two separate stints, as well as a pair of years with the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Hunt has two World Junior gold medals as an assistant coach, and was an associate coach on Team Canada’s Youth Olympic Games team. Hunt has also coached two years in the professional ranks with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators as an assistant, and the AHL’s Binghamton Senators as the team’s head coach.
