Have you ever thought about taking a river cruise through the waterways of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia?

This Avalon ship is small and has impeccable service which includes all meals, wine with dinner and guided sightseeing conducted by a Certified Local Guide. To enrich your cruise there are local entertainers and artisans so sit back and enjoy the experience! All cabins open to the outside and a large open air lounge gives you outstanding and panoramic views along the way.

The powerful Mekong River provides a lifeline for millions of people. You will see fascinating scenes of daily life unfold.  There are fishermen hauling in their daily catch and the locals making their way to the markets to sell produce. A  Shore excursion can be visiting the local weavers who create masterpieces made with pure silver or shimmering silk.

Vietnam is known for their incredible rice wine and traditional candy. Visit Southern Vietnam’s capital city of Ho Chi Minh City and take in the Cu Chi Tunnels excursion. This was used by the Viet Cong as a hideout and secret village during the war. Look at what life would have been like living underground in more than 120 miles of tunnels. See the spectacular Angkor Wat Temples which researchers now believe was the largest pre-industrial city in the world!

In Cambodia you will learn about the sobering Khmer Rouge regime. Peace has finally come to this beautiful yet blighted land after three decades of civil war. The Cambodian people are now opening their arms to the world. The Mekong River is home to some of the region’s last remaining fresh water dolphins. Explore villages where you will learn about the daily life of a local farmer. Riding to the village on an ox cart will be a truly unique experience.

Take the opportunity to visit Hanoi. It is a city seemingly unfazed by its history and the people are incredibly friendly. Maybe visit the country of Laos and the site of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre or experience how Sa paper is made from the pulp of mulberry trees in one of the local villages.

You can choose to cruise between Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to Bangkok or the reverse option.  Think about extending your stays in these cities to truly experience the wonderful culture and vibrancy of each city. There is so much to see and do!

The Mekong River cruise is a very unique waterway and an opportunity to explore these countries without having to unpack your bag!

Put this incredible vacation on your “bucket list “and visit a part of the world that still offers some of Asia’s ultimate adventures.
