Police track, chase stolen SUV from P.A. to Rosthern

The RCMP shut down part of Highway 11 near Rosthern on Friday afternoon to lay down spike belts that finally stopped an SUV that had been stolen in Saskatoon and chased by police in Prince Albert.  

According to an RCMP release, a woman driving an SUV that was stolen in Saskatoon first came to the attention of Prince Albert RCMP at around 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

She was allegedly on Highway 11 driving erratically, at speeds between 150 and 170 kilometres an hour.

When the SUV made its way into Prince Albert, city police were unable to get the driver to pull over for a traffic stop. They chased her until she left city limits.

The RCMP were notified, and during that time the SUV had cut through back roads between Highway 2 south and Highway 11. The SUV ignored stop signs and weaved through traffic in that time, the RCMP reports, however no one was chasing her at that time.

Within half an hour of police learning of this wild driver, she was finally stopped by a spike belt that Rosthern RCMP placed on the southbound lane of Highway 11 just north of Rosthern.

Rhoda Heimbecker, 30, from Saskatoon was arrested after the SUV finally came to a stop.

She faces various charges including property obtained by crime, failing to stop for police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The RCMP states no one, including the SUV’s driver was hurt in the incident.
