Team Sask sweeps National Aboriginal Hockey Championships
For the second year in a row, Team Saskatchewan swept the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, winning gold in both the male and female categories this week in Halifax, N.S.
Throughout the tournament, their combined records were 9-2-1, including a perfect 6-0 in the playoffs.
The Team Sask boys had a thrilling finish to their tournament, winning 4-3 in overtime in the finals over Team Alberta. Three Mintos were on the team in Gunville, Teer and Hucul, as well as P.A. boys Braden Isbister and Riley Dupre. Curtis Roach, who started this season with the Prince Albert Raiders, was also on the squad. They beat Manitoba 6-2 in the semi-finals.
All three coaches are from Prince Albert; Shawn Phaneuf is the head coach with Taryn Phaneuf and Floyd Cook as assistant coaches.
