Youth charged with murder in Crescent Heights shooting death

Prince Albert Police have labelled a recent suspicious death in Prince Albert a homicide.

Following the results of an autopsy in Edmonton, police confirmed that 64-year-old Marina Thorpe was shot to death.

Police have arrested a young offender in connection to Thorpe’s death. The teen faces a charge of first-degree murder, and can’t be named due to the Young Offenders Act.

Police believe that the offender and Thorpe were known to each other and it was not a random act of violence.

A large area of a walking path in the residential area was taped off earlier in the week.

Prince Albert Police Service’s (PAPS) Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit investigated the scene after Thorpe’s body was found on Sunday night.

On Monday, police investigators seemed focused on an area near a pedestrian bridge.

At least four numbered ground markers were set out.

On Tuesday, police reached out for information from anyone who may have seen something notable while travelling on the popular walking path on Sunday night.

He will make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

The autopsy on Thorpe was scheduled in Edmonton, Alta., on Wednesday.
