Batoche has new NDP MLA candidate

The NDP party has named its new candidate in Batoche for the next provincial election.

Tony Head was selected as the new candidate by the Batoche New Democrats on Saturday.

“Tony is absolutely focused on the things that really matter to the families in the Batoche region,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten in a news release.

“Saskatchewan has had record resource wealth over the last decade, and this government has spent every last penny and then some. But, families aren’t feeling the benefits.”

Head’s wife teaches at Beardy’s First Nation School. He has three daughters.

Head has deep roots in the history of Batoche. His grandfather, the late Senator Edward Head, was a Metis leader.

Head has spent the last 12 years working for the City of Prince Albert and is a national representative with the Canadian Union of Employees.

In a news release, Head indicated he’s looking forward to bringing all he’s learned to bring changes to Batoche.

“Families are concerned about the condition of the schools and they’re upset that the highways aren’t being maintained,” said Head.

“Batoche families and businesses deserve more opportunities to get ahead. And, seniors need more choices and more support and care to age in their community. But, the government is not getting the job done, despite record revenues. More and more these days, I hear people ask ‘where has all the money gone?’”
