Athletes from the Prince Albert Pikes Synchronized Swimming Club attended the Sadie Caulder Knight Championship meet in Regina, Saskatchewan on the weekend of April 11/12 and scored well.

The club competed in several categories at the championship including Age 11-12, age 8 and under as well as Masters.

Performing their routine for the second time at a meet this year and placing third in the Age 11-12 category, swimmers Adriena Bates, Chloe Lysitza, and Jamie Fremont, were in unison and pleased with their performance.

“Building on our first swim meet that took place in Regina earlier this year, we performed our figures well and are really excited about our routine, ‘Fun in Pink’.”

In addition, also in the age 11-12 category, a second teamincluding Sydney Peake, Sudney Duncan, Nicole Penner, Lexus Neil and Alexis McDonald placed fifth. Inthe age 8 and under duet category, swimmers Sierra and Skylar Hamel placed first in in the club’s first ever Master duet, swimmers Renee Phaneuf and Carla Flaman placed first.

The P.A. Pikes Synchronized Swimming Club was created in 2012 and teaches swimming techniques and synchro skills, strength, agility and flexibility. “The P.A. Pikes are evolving from the new kids on the
synchro scene into an established club”, noted club President, Rhonda Michaels. The P.A. Pikes offers a range of programs: the recreation program is for those aged 7 wanting to have fun, improve their swimming
techniques and learn synchro skills; the competitive program is targeted towards confident swimmers age 9 and up who want to learn figures, routines and compete provincially; for people over 20 years of age, the
masters’ program provides an opportunity to improve swim strokes and  synchronized techniques, and keep fit. This has been a developmental year for the growing club.

“Our returningathletes are having fun with their routines, getting better at their figures; our new members are having fun and learning lots by attending meets and practices”, commented Michaels. In addition to the skill development, synchro is a real ‘team’ sport where newer swimmers can learn from our more experienced athletes. The next meet the club will attend is Saskatchewan Prairie Invitational in Saskatoon in May.

The P.A. Pikes can only provide these valuable opportunities for athletes because of the dedication of coaches, volunteers and parents, and the generous support of sponsors.

“Without local business sponsorship, the club would not be able to cover costs associated with pool time; support is the cornerstone to success in ensuring membership fees are within reach for interested families”, added Michaels.
