Saskatchewan Roughriders coming to 900 CKBI

Apr 2, 2015 | 10:59 AM

900 CKBI is going to bleed green and white.

The radio station has joined the 620 CKRM Saskatchewan Roughrider Radio Network.

“We’re really looking forward to partnering with The [Jim] Pattison [Broadcast] Group and continuing on delivering, what we feel is the best play-by-play football for Canada’s team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders,” said Regina Harvard Broadcasting General Manager Jason Huschi.

The deal includes all home and away games, as well as the West Semi-Final, West Final, and the Grey Cup.

The debut broadcast will air on Saturday, June 13, when the Roughriders travel to Fort McMurray, Alta. to play the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL’s inaugural Northern Kickoff.

In addition to 900 CKBI, the games will also air on the CKBI FM repeaters in Big River and La Ronge.

Huschi said the northern audience has been on their radar for quite some time, but only recently was Harvard Broadcasting in a position to move forward.

“It had been discussed before, but I guess until the ownership changed in the situation now with Pattison coming in, it wasn’t a reality, but now it became that way,” said Huschi.

Long-time listeners of 900 CKBI will easily recognize the voice of the Riders, Rod Pedersen.  To this day Pedersen credits 900 CKBI for where he got his start in broadcasting.

Pedersen fondly remembers his days in Prince Albert, and his summers he would spend at the lake.

“I was on boats on those lakes where we had trouble back in the early 90s getting the Riders game in, that will not be a problem now,” he said.  “I think this will expand the Rider Nation to be honest with you.”

In addition to 900 CKBI, Riders games will also be heard on 1050 CJNB North Battleford and CJNS 102.3 Meadow Lake.
