Ban on rec hockey team for AHC incident lifted

Apr 1, 2015 | 3:48 PM

The Prince Albert Crown Royals hockey club can once again use City facilities.

The City lifted the ban imposed against members of the team, effective immediately, it announced in a statement on Wednesday morning.

“The City further acknowledges that the hockey team has fulfilled the terms of their contract and has made further payment for damages to the facility,” the statement issued by Mayor Greg Dionne’s office said.

The incident took place on Dec. 21, 2014 in the Ches Leach Lounge, and the City went public with information about it in January, weeks later. At the time it went public, the City alleged there was $3,000 worth of damages in the Ches Leach Lounge and that a female City employee had been assaulted.

That was the night of the Crown Royals’ fundraiser hockey tournament and dance. The fundraiser was in honour of a late friend and the proceeds went towards the Prince Albert SPCA and helping a local family that has to make frequent trips to Saskatoon for their youngest child’s medical treatment.

The City then banned the team’s members from using City facilities.

Both the City and the team consider the matter closed and the City will not be making further comments.
