Potholes could follow latest snowfall

The early spring snowfall could prove to be a detriment to Prince Albert’s roads after the melt.

The City’s roadways manager Brent Kennedy explained this is “due to so much moisture we’re going to have and the colder temperature in the evening, it’s going to pop out more potholes.”

Kennedy said that as soon as the City has finished with snow removal, it will send out crews to fill the potholes. The crews will be using temporary cold mix when they do get to road patching.

Until then, crews will be out around the City clearing snow. Kennedy said they were ready for this latest snowfall.

Although it’s now spring and the City was preparing its equipment for street sweeping, all of its snowplows and sanders are still in use.

The sanders were called out on Tuesday morning after more snow fell overnight.

Two semis travelling down Second Avenue West ended up in an accident after one couldn’t get traction on the hill at 17th Street West. Kennedy said the trucks were out on the hill before the sander trucks could get there.

“So that hill … it’s OK now. It’s water,” he said.

The City will focus mainly on clearing snow on the hills and after that, the City will clear snow in other areas. It cleared the main streets of ice before the snow fell.

The City has two graders out on the roads. Kennedy explains this is because there isn’t a sufficient amount of snow it has to move.

“I expect here because of the temperature and the weather I’ve been looking at, I would think in the next couple days, most of this snow will be gone.”
