Fire claims Albertville home, one injured

Mar 22, 2015 | 12:44 PM

A structure fire in Albertville claimed the home of a four member family.

On Saturday around 5:30 p.m. Meath Park Fire Department was called to the fire, Fire Chief Gary Gobeil said they immediately called Buckland Fire Department for assistance.

“On our way there we called for assistance,” said Gobeil.

With help from Buckland he said it took a few hours to take down the main blaze, which destroyed the entire home.

Gobeil added that luckily there were no deaths and only the father burnt his hands, when he rushed inside thinking his 14-year-old son was still in the home.

“He ran back in yelling for him and kind of figured he was laying in his bed, and put his hands on the bed to see if it was him,” said Gobeil. “He was outside though.”

Gobeil said it’s believed the fire broke out in the son’s room and was caused by wiring in the walls.

At the time the father and his 16-year-old daughter were the only people inside the home.

He added that crews were on scene until the early hours of Sunday morning putting out hot spots and trying to keep the remaining bits of fire away from the gas line which was between the house and the garage.

The garage remained untouched by the blaze.

There will be no investigation from the fire department into the cause of the fire, according to Gobeil.
