ALSO…

In 2014 the Government of SK struck an 11 person task force to do consultations with Saskatchewan people and produce a report/recommendations on a “Poverty Reduction Strategy” for Saskatchewan.

The topic for the upcoming May 26 CNC Knowledge Exchange is “Looking at Poverty – causes and effects in our community”.  The CNC steering committee sent a request to the Ministry task force to come to PA that day to report on their progress.  They responded that their report is not due until later in the year, but they indicated that the CNC will be invited to a consultation in Saskatoon in April (no date has been confirmed yet).

The steering committee would like to take some feedback from the community when we attend the consultation in April, so we will be taking some time to begin a discussion with the you at the March 24 gathering as to the best way to access this information from the community.

If you cannot attend next Tuesday, we will be sending out a response form by e-mail following the March 24 gathering.

Please mark your calendar for May 26, 2015, PA Arts Centre 1010 central Ave 12:30 am – 3:00 pm,  as this will be an important day of thought and discussion in our community.  We all know that “Poverty” is at the root of many issues we are facing here in our community.  This is not something that can be “cured” by a task force, but perhaps there are some government policies that can be put in place to begin to address the root causes, and perhaps communities can affect some positive movement by coming together to begin to work together.

We hope to have a progress report from the task force by May 26 and will also share some initiatives happening in other communities as well as continuing the discussion about ways that poverty affects us here in our community and possible strategies to reduce the ravaging effects of poverty right here in PA
