La Loche mayor has federal aspirations

Georgina Jolibois has declared her intention to seek nomination for the New Democratic Party (NDP) for the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River constituency.

Jolibois has been the mayor of La Loche since 2003. She is the current chairperson of the Saskatchewan Association of Northern Communities, a northern-wide lobby group for the northern municipalities.

“The residents of the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River constituency have been ignored for far too long at the federal level,” Jolibois said in a statement. “I am seeking the nomination in our region to bring the concerns of our constituency to Parliament and to work to find solutions for northern people.”

Jolibois said that the size and diversity of the constituency presents challenges and many opportunities.

“We have small northern villages, many First Nations communities, and many rural communities.  But they all have one thing in common: they want to be listened to,” she said in the statement.

“I want to be a strong voice for the people of northern Saskatchewan. I will fight for our home – for health funding, environmental sustainability, affordable housing and tackling the high cost of living. I look forward to asking the people of northern Saskatchewan for their support to be their voice.”

Jolibois is a life-long resident of La Loche, a graduate of La Loche High School and holds a four-year degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
