Toy donation lights up eyes at Hope’s Home

Feb 10, 2015 | 4:05 PM

Even with new tablets in the hands of a daycare that caters to children with medical issues, the donation of a toy ball is what really lit up the eyes of a young boy.

P.A. Fine Foods was behind the excitement at Hope’s Home on Tuesday morning as its staff delivered over $2,000 worth of toys to the daycare in Prince Albert.

The practice of collecting money from Fine Foods staff in all their locations started about nine years ago, Kelly Jackson with the company’s accounts receivable said.

Each year staff buys a Christmas gift for the company’s owners Bob and Lorie Schultz, but they requested that instead, staff gives the funds to a children’s charity.

Over the years they’ve donated mainly in Prince Albert, including to Give a Little Life Day and providing new children’s beds at Prince Albert shelters.

“We really like the money to stay home,” Jackson said.

This year, P.A. Fine Foods decided to put the money collected by the staff – which came from their own wallets – towards toys and items that are specifically not funded at Hope’s Home.

This year they collected the most money so far since P.A. Fine Foods started the donations.

“You just love to put a smile on their faces. That’s our goal, is to put a smile on these little kid’s faces,” Jackson said.

“It’s so exciting. A few of us go shop, it’s like a convoy in the stores.”

Among the gifts were Samsung Galaxy 3 Tablets, toy cars, play kitchens, and a rocking chair for Hope’s Home.
