Manslaughter plea in 2013 P.A. stabbing

A man has entered a guilty plea for a manslaughter that left behind visible blood in a Prince Albert parking lot in September of 2013.

Charles Adam Stewart was charged with the second degree murder of Davis David Broussie, 25, days after Broussie’s body was found unconscious in the Subway Restaurant parking lot in the 200-block of 15th Street West.

Broussie had been attacked and stabbed, and at the time police said it wasn’t a random act.

Broussie – from Black Lake – died in hospital, succumbing “to injuries sustained during an altercation,” Prince Albert Police wrote in a news release from Sept. 10, 2013.

Stewart, who is now in his mid-20s, was arrested for murder after a search of his home and released on bail several months later.

After a series of pretrial dates, Stewart came to Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench on Thursday ready to plead guilty to a lesser charge.

The Crown accepted Stewart’s plea, and counsel requested a presentence report. Stewart’s defence counsel stated they want the presentence report to cover Gladue factors.

Counsel in the case submitted a file containing the agreed statement of fact from defence and the Crown.

Those facts won’t be available to the public until the June 4th sentencing for Stewart.

Crown prosecutor Keith A. Amyotte told the justice it seems the Crown and defence are a “fair ways apart in terms of sentencing submissions,” which means the two parties will not be asking for Stewart to serve the same sentence.

Both the family of Broussie and Stewart were present, and tensions were visible in the gallery.
