3 Sask. men survive avalanche in Golden, B.C.

Two of three Saskatchewan men have been seriously injured after being caught up in an avalanche in southeast British Columbia.

Brendon Teichroeb from Yorkton, Roy Hutton from Saskatoon and Matthew Taylor from Regina, all in their 20s, were on a snowboarding and skiing trip at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden B.C.

The RCMP said the men were on a back country run for expert skiers called Terminator 2 when they went out of bounds and were caught up in the avalanche on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the men called 911 and a safety team from the resort was able to quickly locate the three.

Teichroeb was not hurt in the avalanche and called his father back home in Yorkton to tell him he was OK.

“He was up top a little bit higher and saw it happen,” said Lindsay Teichroeb, “He sounded kind of shook up on the phone so I think it was still pretty fresh in his mind.”

Taylor has a broken leg and Hutton has broken arms and an injured back. They are both in hospital.

The trio were experienced skiers and Teichroeb’s father tells CJME that one friend previously worked in B.C. and knows the hills.
