RCMP puts search for missing snowmobilers in Carrot River on hold

Feb 3, 2015 | 5:31 AM

The Carrot River RCMP is putting search efforts “on hold” until it gets new information about a woman who may have been in a snowmobile accident with her sister.

On Saturday afternoon, the detachment received a call from a woman who said her name is Cassandra, and she claimed she dialed the wrong number while trying to call her grandmother Katherine Pierce. Cassandra told an RCMP officer that she and her sister had hit a tree with their snowmobile just outside of Carrot River and she was disoriented.

After she ended the call, RCMP made attempts to try and locate Cassandra. This included asking for assistance from Sasktel to trace the caller’s location. However, the RCMP say SaskTel was unable to get the information.

Officers also searched for “Katherine Pierce” in various databases and tried to locate the grandmother, but were unsuccessful.

Finally, a Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) search plane was dispatched and conducted a grid search of the area where Cassandra had claimed to have had an accident, but searchers could not find anything.

There also have been no missing persons complaints reported to the Carrot River RCMP recently.

However, the Carrot River RCMP is still concerned for the well-being of Cassandra and her sister and is still asking for the public’s assistance to find out what happened to the two.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carrot River RCMP at 306-768-1200.
