Man charged in sexual assault in Battleford

A 33-year-old man is charged with a violent sexual assault earlier this week in Battleford.

RCMP said they were called to a home early Monday morning. A woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her head, torso, and extremities.

A suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon. Cory Smockum made his first court appearance Wednesday charged with sexual assault, assault, and choking to overcome resistance.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday morning
