A man will face impaired driving charges after he hit an emergency services vehicle that responding to a fire in Lac La Ronge.

On Thursday morning, the La Ronge fire department was called to a house fire on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

Sgt. Richard Price of the La Ronge detachment said he is not sure where the residents of the house are going to stay now that their residence burned down.

“There may be some items that can be salvaged but for the most part it’s basically considered a total loss,” said Price. “I think there was quite a few occupants in the house at the time the fire started but as far as how many actually live in there I’m not too sure.”

Price said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the people in the home at the time of the blaze only sustained minor injuries.

“We have … an idea of what started it [the fire] but it’s just not confirmed until the final investigation is done,” said Price. “There were some minor injuries when the occupants were trying to escape the house.”

RCMP had their hands full

When La Ronge RCMP arrived at the scene of the fire they witnessed a vehicle hitting an ambulance.

After the collision, RCMP began an impaired driving investigation regarding the driver of the vehicle.

“Charges haven’t been sworn [in] yet but once those documents are all approved and signed off by … [a] justice then we can release the name and the court da[te],” said Price.

Price couldn’t describe the suspect involved in the crash but he does know they were driving a black Ford Mustang.

“There [were] no injuries as a result of the accident, it was just minor damage to the vehicles and no injuries,” said Price.
