The Prince Albert Cruizers track athletes brought home some medals after taking part in a competition in Saskatoon.

The group travelled to Saskatoon over the weekend to compete in the U of S Sled Dog Track & Field Meet.

From the group, 20 members were able to set or break personal best performances, according to the coaches.

Coach Marvin Sanderson said he and the other coach, Darrel Oleksyn, as well as assistant coaches Dorothy Johnstone and Caleb Bear, provide a variety of activities to train the young athletes and keep them upbeat about training and competition.

This includes cross training that involves biking at Little Red River Park, rock climbing and swimming at the facilities in Prince Albert during the winter, and training at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon as well.

Sanderson said athletes also train twice a week at École Vickers School and once a month at the track at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

“Our goal is to keep our kids active and enjoying the sport of track and field,” said Sanderson in a statement. “Many athletes use this training to excel at other sports such as volleyball, hockey, soccer and more as track is a sport that helps develop many aspects of what’s needed in sports.”

There will be two more indoor meets this year in Saskatoon and one in Regina before the outdoor season begins.
