Fugitive taunts police online

A 21-year-old man who ran away from RCMP custody a Black Lake court house has been taunting police online.

Since escaping, Solomon Toutsaint has remained active online. Toutsaint has reportedly posted status updates on Facebook saying “Catch me if you can lol” and “Imma bad boy.”

None of this has gone unnoticed. The RCMP has been keeping tabs on Toutsaint’s recent online activity.

“We have been getting information from the community they’ve been helpful and some of the posts that have been coming in have been apparently posted by him, sort of treating everything a little bit like a game,” said Sgt. Cory Niedzielski, detachment commander with the Stony Rapids RCMP.

The posts have helped give some direction where Toutsaint may have been – or may be. Niedzielski said that as best as the RCMP knows, Toutsaint is still in the Stony Rapids – Black Lake area.

“However, it’s important to note that we don’t have cellphone service up here. So these posts are not mobile in nature, like how you could be driving down the highway and posting something, and you could be between one place and another place.”

Niedzielski said Toutsaint would have to be using a Wi-Fi connection or someone’s home connection to be posting.

This raises the possibility that someone has allowed Toutsaint into their home to use their computer briefly or has seen him. That person or those people may be concerned about compromising themselves in some way.

Niedzielski said any tip they do get, they follow up on.

However, the posts made by Toutsaint are no longer visible to the public.

Toutsaint ran away from the court house in Black Lake on Jan. 21. RCMP officers were taking three other people in custody to court at the time of the escape.

The RCMP considers him to be non-violent. He faces two counts of break and enter.

He is described as aboriginal, five feet, nine inches, about 150 pounds, with a slender build, short black hair and brown eyes.

Toutsaint could potentially be anywhere between Prince Albert to Stony Rapids and Black Lake or nearby communities, according to Niedzielski. He added the RCMP is concentrating the majority of its efforts in the Stony Rapids – Black Lake area.
