Jan 16, 2015 | 11:01 AM

Two youths are facing charges after allegedly threatening others in separate incidents with a stun gun.

According to La Ronge RCMP, the first incident happened on Jan. 10 around 7 p.m.  Members were responding to a complaint at a business in La Ronge.

“When officers had come they received information that the food delivery person had been robbed.  Basically, the first individual had threatened or shown the electrical device to the person and was able to get away with a small amount of cash,” said operational NCO Sgt. Richard Price.

The male youth suspect was found and taken into custody by RCMP that evening however, the weapon used in the robbery was not located.

He is charged with:

-Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon

-possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

-uttering threats against a person

-assault with a weapon contrary

-robbery – with other offensive weapon contrary

The suspect was in La Ronge court Jan. 12 and will appear again April 23 for a plea.

The day after the robbery, another boy was seen around 1 a.m. carrying an item that fit the description of the stun gun used earlier, according to Price.

“What we believe is the same weapon was found on another individual who was walking down the road later on, on January 11th.  And when he was confronted by police he displayed the weapon to officers but did not discharge it and he was arrested and taken into custody,” Price said.

The youth was charged with:

-Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon

– possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

-assault on a police officer with a weapon

-uttering threats against a person

He appeared in a La Ronge court Jan. 12.  He pleaded guilty to two charges and received nine months probation.

Price doesn’t know how easy it is to get a stun gun, but explained it is an Omega Stun Gun that can be ordered over the Internet.  The weapon has a retail value of around $110 and measures 46 centimetres long and emits 150,000 volts.

“Apparently, this particular stun gun is legal in Canada and you can order it right over the Internet.”
