VIP Cinemas opening in Saskatoon

Jan 14, 2015 | 10:49 AM

Saskatoon’s first VIP cinemas will be raising their curtain to movie buffs this weekend.

There are three new screens at the VIP Cinemas at Scotia Bank Theatre Saskatoon with reserved seating; food and drink service at the seats, including alcohol; and a licensed lounge.

“They will focus on content geared towards adults. We think it will be a big hit. It’s been a big hit everywhere else it opens in Canada,” said director of communications at Cineplex Mike Langdon, adding it’s the 12th to open in Canada.

“We serve leading up to the movie. People will receive their meals and their movie snacks during the trailers.”

The three theatres range between 110 to 120 leather recliners which people can reserve in advance.  Two will show 3D films.

“The best way to describe the guest reaction to our VIP cinemas is that they are overwhelmingly popular,” Langdon said.

“When we open a new movie, our VIP cinemas are always the first to sell out… The whole experience is to a new level.”

The new VIP cinemas will open Friday for the first time showing Taken 3, The Imitation Game, and American Sniper.

To experience the movies in VIP style will cost $21 on weekends, weekdays are $19.99 and Tuesday is $14.99.
