Saskatoon passenger arrested after stealing megaphone off plane

A Saskatoon man got a one-way ticket to court after police said he caused trouble at the airport.

The 29-year-old man was arrested when his WestJet flight from Toronto landed in Saskatoon on Monday night shortly before 9 p.m.

Police said the man took an item from the plane.

“We landed in Saskatoon and the pilot announced that something was missing from the plane, that we had lost something and at first it seemed like something had fallen off the plane,” Mike Van Dijk, one of the other passengers on the flight, said.

Van Dijk said once the plane pulled up to the airport, police boarded the aircraft and talked to a passenger at the back of the plane.

“They said, ‘Well, you can either tell us who it is right now or we’re going to have to go through all the bags and it’s going to take quite a while,’ so the young gentleman who had the megaphone stashed in his bag gave it back,” Van Dijk said.

Van Dijk said the young man appeared embarrassed about the whole incident.

The 29-year-old man will appear in court on Tuesday for charges of theft under $5,000 for the item taken and mischief over $5,000 because of the interference of the flight.
