Respiratory outbreak spreads

Jan 13, 2015 | 3:56 PM

There are now five long-term care homes in the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region affected by a respiratory outbreak.

The affected facilities include Mont St Joseph, Pineview Terrace, and the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert. Birchview Home in Birch Hills, and Whispering Pine Place in Canwood are also affected by the outbreak.

Friends and family of residents are being told to keep away for the time being, however family members who have an urgent or compassionate reason to visit, can call the facility in advance for instructions.

“Having fewer people coming into our facilities gives us the best opportunity to stop the spread of influenza and the other contagious illnesses,” said Carol Gregoryk, vice-president of Integrated Health Services, in a statement.   “We understand that family and friends want to visit, but for now we request people’s assistance to help protect their loved ones and the other residents of the facilities.”
