VIDEO: Alleged Tim Hortons snake-throwers appear in court

Jan 12, 2015 | 3:47 PM

Video of a highly-publicized snake-tossing incident at a Saskatoon Tim Hortons surfaced Monday, the same day the accused made their first court appearence.

Luke Wesley Apooch and Christopher Jordon Cook, both 20, are charged with mischief and causing a disturbance.

On Dec. 8, 2014, police were called to 22nd Street West and Avenue F South at around 7:30 a.m. In a release issued that day, police said two men had been arguing with staff over how the onions on their sandwiches were prepared.

They wanted them diced, police said.

The argument escalated, leading one of the men to pull a snake from the other’s pocket and toss it behind the counter, sending staff members fleeing in fear.

Nobody was injured, and the snake was later found to be non-poisonous. The two suspects were arrested nearby.

A video uncovered by News Talk Monday fills in some missing details about the incident. It was posted on the Facebook page of one of the accused, three days after the incident.

The two men are seen standing in line at a Tim Hortons, drinking open cans of Pilsner. They appear to be intoxicated.

When they get to the counter, one of the men begins making a food order with increasingly elaborate preparation demands.

“Can I get a sausage biscuit, but like, kind of undercook the sausage a little bit so it’s so that it’s kind of creamy and mooshy, and kind of cook the cheese so that it’s melted but not too melted,” one of the men says off-camera.

The order is placed over a matter of minutes to the increasingly agitated staff.

Towards the end of the video, one man says “I’m going to release my snake. Oh yes.” Off camera, a woman can be heard screaming, and both men can be heard laughing.

At Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday, Christopher Cook had his matter sent to mediation. His next court date is Feb. 23.

Luke Apooch, who posted the video, did not show up for court, and the judge issued a bench warrant.
