Raising Funds for Ahtahkakoop Fire Victims

Jan 9, 2015 | 9:00 AM

The absolute worst possible nightmare became a reality for the Ahenakew/Kay and Buffalo families on December 29th. A house fire took two lives from these families.

Funds are being raised via GoFundMe Account. People can donate at: http://www.gofundme.com/ahenakew-kaye

Lost in the fire were Donna Kay & Teegan Ahenakew.  Donna was her husband Wayne’s soul mate. She was a mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend to many. Teegan just celebrated his 10th birthday and just became a big brother. Both earned their wings leaving family, friends and community heartbroken.

The two survivors got out of the fire with only the clothes on their backs. They lost absolutely everything that day. They suddenly went from living in a beautiful home to being homeless; suffering the lost lives of loved ones who can never be replaced, and the loss of their home and all their possessions.

A niece of the family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for the famly.

“My auntie always made a beautiful home that was open to everyone. I know that she would’ve wanted us to all assist in helping them make a new home for not only uncle and Cody but all of their kids and grandchildren. She was a firm believer and had such love for family. They both exemplified the importance of family in all who shared in their lives.Thank you all for your love and support. I know that any help is very much appreciated,” she says.
