Sask. drivers enjoying savings at the pump

As Kaylan Chartier gets gas at the Grasswood PetroCan, the lower price at the pump could mean the difference between putting in $20, or filling the tank.

“I usually put in a bit more money, just to make it worth it,” he said.

As of Tuesday, gas prices in Saskatoon were 85.9 per litre for regular. When compared to the prices of not-that-long-ago, it amounts to a savings of 35 cents per litre.

That translates to about $60 in savings every month for the car owner that fills up a 40 litre tank once a week. Make that $91 for a 60 litre tank.

BMO Capital Markets predicts that if gas prices stay this low, the average Canadian household will enjoy an annual savings close to $1,000.

“I don’t expect it to go any lower than this,” said Elvis Henry, also filling up at the PetroCan. “I didn’t expect it to go this far; I thought 99 cents was good.

“I think with all the travel I do … and the cold weather, I’m not really saving a whole lot. But it is nice to see it under a dollar for sure,” he added.

Rick Worgh can’t enjoy the savings either, but for different reasons.

“Unfortunately, I drive a diesel truck, and I’d sure like to know when the diesel’s going to go down low,” he said. “That’s the next question, because it’s still pretty much the same, and I’m hoping it goes down soon.”
