Riders release 2, sign 2

The Saskatchewan  Roughriders have made their first moves of 2015.

The team announced on Tuesday that they’ve officially release centre Dominic Picard and linebacker Tristan Black. The Green and White also re-signed Canadian receiver Alex Anthony and Canadian linebacker Ryan Wellman.

Picard being released should come as no surprise as that move was first reported by Kirk Penton of the Winnipeg Sun last week, then confirmed by the Green Zone on Monday.

It didn’t take long for Picard to find work as he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers not even half an hour after the Riders made the move official.

As for the players sticking around, 2015 will be Anthony’s third season with the Riders. He was originally picked in the fifth round of the 2013 CFL Draft. Anthony has played in four games making two catches for 13 yards. He’s also played special teams roles in those games.

Wellman signed with the Riders as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He played in five games, playing mostly on special teams, recording two tackles.
