Draisaitl move finally announced; headed to Kelowna

Jan 6, 2015 | 9:12 AM

After much speculation, the Draisaitl deal has finally been officially announced.

The Prince Albert Raiders have sent the 19-year-old to the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for 18-year-old Swiss forward Kris Schmidli, 18-year-old defenceman Dalton Yorke, a first round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, a fourth round selection in 2016 and a conditional fourth round pick in either 2016 or 2017.

With Euro Schmidli coming in, that left the team with three European imports. The Raiders corrected that situation by shipping defenceman Tomas Andrlik, who’s out about week-to-week with an ankle injury, to the Prince George Cougars for a 12th round pick in 2015.

On Saturday, the Raiders announced that Draisaitl was reassigned to the team by the Edmonton Oilers, pending a trade of his rights. Draisaitl had nine points and was -17 in 37 games with the Oilers this year.
