Oilers assign Draisaitl back to WHL pending trade

Jan 4, 2015 | 12:17 PM

The Edmonton Oilers have reassigned Leon Draisaitl back to the Prince Albert Raiders, but it is highly unlikely that the King of Leon will suit up for the Green and Gold.

In the Raiders release they made on their website, they said the “Oilers have released Leon Draisaitl back to the Prince Albert Raiders pending a trade of his WHL rights.”

There have been many reports suggesting that Draisaitl’s rights have already been agreed to be moved to the Kelowna Rockets, but the deal can’t be officially announced until after the World Junior Championships.

That’s because players that are in the deal are currently participating in the WJC, which would most logically be Rockets forward Kris Schmidli who’s with the Swiss.
