Northern Lights Palace Pool

Jan 4, 2015 | 1:46 PM

The Northern Lights Palace Pool is located at 110 MacLeod Avenue West. The facility is a leisure pool with a wave generator, waterslide, hot tub, spray bar, dry sauna, and a zero depth entrance. The pool is open year round offering swimming lessons, Aquafitness, lane swimming, family swimming, public swimming and birthday parties.

  • 25 meters with 5 lanes (29oC)
  • Zero depth to 2.2m (7’4″)

The Palace sports a zero depth entrance / exit. The design of the pool is very elegant and this is one of the best aspects of it. The shallow area ranges from 0 to 7.4 feet in the deep. The waves do not crash hard on the beach but rather move you up and down. This is much gentler for toddlers.

There are 2 tot pools protected from the waves. One closer to the changerooms and one that isolated from the rest of the pool when the spray bar is not in use.

Wave Generation

The City of Melfort boasts an amazing 620,000 litre wave pool. The pool is 25 metres wide in the centre. It starts at zero depth increasing to 2.2 m deep. Ride the 24 inch waves in the deep, swim near the edge and have them toss you against the wall, or lay down on the beach as they wash up against you.

Definitely the favorite feature of the facility, the waves keep people coming back to Melfort from all corners of the province. Schools regularly book times, sports club wind-ups, seasonal parties, everyone is welcome to book a rental time at the pool.

150′ Waterslide

The slide is 150 feet long and keeps people coming back just to go down the waterslide. With a quick drop at the start to give you some speed, a couple twists and turns, and another drop at the end as you splash to a finish. Because of the exit pool being 1.2m (4’0”), there is a height requirement of 1.3m (4’2”) marked on the wall. If your child does not meet the requirement you can either assist them going down or if they are old enough to catch them at the bottom of the slide as they exit.

Hot Tub / Whirlpool (40oC)

If you need to relieve a little tension, take a soak in our large whirlpool. The hot tub is 1.0m (3.3’) deep with a seating ledge surrounding the entire perimeter. There are jets around the outside for you to sit against for relief of you back muscles. Relaxing heat and muscle stimulation relieves physical burdens and brightens the spirits. All you have to do is step in.

Dry Sauna

We have a full size cedar dry sauna for relaxing and keeping warm. The sauna is generally kept at 60 to 80 degrees Celsius.

Also find:

  • Large beach and deck area
  • Family changeroom
  • Concession

All this at the only indoor wave pool in northeast Saskatchewan – a year round splash and fun destination. Plan a visit while you’re in the area. It’s an attraction not to be missed!
