Christmas tree drop off changes venue

Dec 31, 2014 | 12:58 PM

With Christmas over it’s time to dump that old, needle-shedding tree.

But while you’re looking to drop off the remains of what used to be full of Christmas cheer, there’s one bit of information you’ll need to remember this year—the location of the drop off has changed.

While most of us are used to taking our tree to the boat launch entrance, this year a site near the Alfred Jenkins Field House is the new drop-off point.

“The Prince Albert Winter Festival is considering some events at that location and they utilize the leftover Christmas each year for some bonfire activities and different winter festival activities,” said Jody Boulet, director of community services.

Even with the change in location, some people already already dropped their trees off at the Riverbank.  Boulet said the city will pick up any stragglers.

“We realize with the change this year that people over the course of years got used to dropping them off on the riverbank, and traditionally that’s where a lot of the Winter Festival events have occurred and with the change in location for some of their activities this year, we’ll certainly come by and pick them up,” he said.

Tree drop off will last until Jan. 9, 2015 at the corner of 28th Street and 10th Avenue West.
