Cab driver robbed at knifepoint

Dec 31, 2014 | 11:57 AM

A knifepoint theft is a situation no one wants to be in, but was unavoidable for a taxi driver on the weekend.

On Saturday Prince Albert police were dispatched to the 1600-block 17th Street West for the armed robbery of a cab driver.

The cab driver said initially, two people at the place he’d been called to got into the cab but left quickly.  At that point another man left the home and entered the front passenger side of the cab.

According to Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded money.

He is described as thin six-foot-tall aboriginal male.  His age is estimated around 16 years old.  Police said he was wearing a black headband with black pants and chain around his neck with a cross at the time of the robbery.

“Officers attended to the residence pointed out by the taxi driver and detained a female inside.  Subsequently, this female was arrested … and has been charged with stolen property,” said Sgt. Brandon Mudry.  She will make her first court appearance Jan. 8, 2015.

The investigation continues.

New Year’s Eve safety

As many are out celebrating the clock clicking down to 2015, PAPS will be out in full force.

Officers will be conducting spot checks looking for impaired drivers and other alcohol-related infractions.

PAPS encourages the public to use sound judgment and not drink and drive.  Some of the options available for party-goers in Prince Albert include Ding in the New Year with Prince Albert Transit, Operation Red Nose, call a taxi or designate a driver.
