City makes changes to snow routes

The City of Saskatoon is making living along a snow route less of a hassle after a big snowfall.

Instead of requiring every vehicle off of a snow route at the same time for a 48-hour period – the city announced Friday a new set of rules to make things run smoother.

This year snow routes have been divided into two main ones. Green Circle and Blue Square will be declared separately and will last no longer than 24-hours each.

The city will also try to give residents more of a heads-up before enacting a snow route parking ban.

The city will only make a declaration at 7 a.m. or 3 p.m. and a minimum of eight hours notice will be given for residents to remove their vehicles from marked streets before a vehicle is ticketed or towed.

The city said the new snow routes will be marked with a metal plate indicating if it’s a Green Circle or Blue Square route.

“There is no defined trigger point for when a snow route parking ban will be declared. A combination of a number of things including snow accumulation, drifting, and temperature could all be factors,” said Pat Hyde, director of public works in a release.

Residents can check on the status of a snow route parking ban using a new interactive map.

The map also shows where snow plows are working during and after a snow event.
