P.A. welcomes province-wide teams

Dec 14, 2014 | 3:12 PM

Soccer teams from around the province hit the turf at Prince Albert’s Alfred Jenkins Field House over the weekend.

Players were invited to the club weekend, which is a two day event where teams have the chance to practice their skills in friendly match-ups.

Sean Riggs, technical director for the Prince Albert Youth Soccer Association (PAYSA) said they have a total of three club weekends over the winter season running in December, January and February.

“Our kids like it because they get to play different people,” he said. “It’s good because…when you go to a tournament there’s like finals and medals and stuff, where there’s a pressure to win, but here’s just more about learning and developing so it’s a lot better for the kids.”

According to one team manager a benefit to playing with the PAYSA is the kids get the chance to play for either a boys or girls team and in some cases mixed.  She said the mixed dynamic brings a whole different sense of competition of boys versus girls.

Riggs said each team is scheduled for a couple games during the free weekend.

“Everybody loves it, the Saskatoon guy came today and he was just amazed at what a nice facility it is, so were really lucky to have a place like this for such a small community,” said Riggs.

-paNOW will have updated scores from the weekend when they become available.
