Prince Albert buses switching gears for New Years

For those spending their New Years in Prince Albert, getting a safe ride home will be even easier than finding the nearest bus stop.

City buses operating between 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2014 through the Ding in the New Year program.

They’ve switched up the route beyond past strategies of following the City’s day-to-day bus routes. Now it will run past popular spots like the Exhibition Centre, the Art Hauser Centre and Ches Leach Lounge, and the Northern Lights Casino.

The SGI-funded program has seen numbers of New Year’s revelers dip drastically.

In 2011, 631 people used the service while in 2012 only 348 people did.

There were even less people on board in 2013, with a ridership of 181.

The City reports that Ding in the New Year has given over 10,000 free rides home since it started in Prince Albert in 1989.
