The SADD Opawikoscikan School Chapter in Pelican Narrows is the winner of the SADD (Students Against Drinking & Driving) Red Ribbon Contest.

The contest was held during SADD’s Red Ribbon Week, Nov. 16-22, 2014.

CAA Saskatchewan awarded $500 to the winning chapter to assist the chapter with its ongoing work that encourages motorists of all ages to not drink and drive.

There were 10 SADD Saskatchewan Chapters that submitted applications for the Red Ribbon Week Campaign and Contest. The Opawikoscikan School Chapter is comprised of students from the Pelican Narrows Youth Council.

The SADD Opawikoscikan School Chapter in Pelican Narrows staged a public event on a frigid cold Saturday evening this past November. About a dozen students aged 12 to 19, stopped 25 vehicles to talk with motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving and handed out SADD Red Ribbons.

The president of the local SADD Chapter joined the group along with the former and current Junior Chief and Council, as well as members of the local RCMP Detachment.

This was the very first event for SADD in Pelican Narrows and the students and community members hope to do more events like this to promote SADD Saskatchewan.
