Diamond mine project clears another hurdle

Dec 4, 2014 | 11:27 AM

Canada’s environment minister announced Wednesday that the proposed Star-Orion South diamond mine is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Leona Aglukkaq’s announcement is based on her review of the comprehensive study report, submitted to the federal government in August. In addition to discussing the environmental impact, the 86-page report also included feedback from neighbouring First Nations.

The minister has now referred the project back to the departments of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada.

There is no timeline given for their review of the report.
