Preliminary hearing set for Pelican Narrows murder case

Dec 2, 2014 | 6:42 AM

The lawyer for a man charged with second-degree murder in connection to a deadly fight in Pelican Narrows did not request bail as a judge set the date for the accused’s preliminary hearing.

On Monday, a provincial court judge set the date for Adam Terrence Sewap’s preliminary hearing for March 30.

The judge offered to preside over a pretrial conference before the hearing in an effort to move things along.

The case has already seen a change in legal representation for Sewap.

His previous lawyer, Adam Masiowski, said he couldn’t represent the accused man because he previously represented the alleged victim in this case. The 29-year-old man who died in a fight in early September has not been named.

Mary McAuley later took over as Sewap’s counsel.

She told the court on Monday that she wants to keep the case in the provincial court system. The other option would be to have it go through the Court of Queen’s Bench.

According to RCMP, Sewap was allegedly involved in a fight with another man in Pelican Narrows around midnight on Sept. 8. The other man was taken to a health centre with serious injuries and was pronounced dead later that night.
