Big Brothers, Big Sisters in Prince Albert and Melfort are looking recruit new mentors for its littles ahead of this holiday season.

The organization is running a ’20 Mentors in 20 Days’ campaign in Prince Albert and a ‘Seven Mentors in Seven Days’ campaign in Melfort.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters is looking for new mentors to help keep up with the influx of kids needing mentors.

“Prince Albert Big Brothers Big Sisters currently has over 30 children on the waiting list,” said Allyson Wall, marketing recruitment co-ordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters for Prince Albert, Melfort and North Battleford.

Wall said so far there are 17 mentors in Prince Albert, with nine more going through the process of being matched.

She said you don’t just have to become a mentor, there are volunteer positions for many other parts of the program as well.

“We have [an] in-school mentorship program which is less time, it’s one hour a week volunteering on school property with a youth in need,” said Wall. “We have after school mentorship programs that run seven to eight weeks, an hour and a half program after school that focuses on physical activity, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle choices.”

“And of course we have group only which is once a month kids on our waiting list, we go and pick them up and take them to an event, whether it be a Raider game or bowling or carving pumpkins or buying Easter eggs, we do a monthly activity with the kids on our waiting list just so those kids can get some one on one time with a positive role model in their life as well.”

If you are interested in helping Big Brothers Big Sisters, in both Prince Albert and Melfort, you can contact Wall at 306-922-1299.
