Snow storm hits Prince Albert and surrounding areas

Nov 28, 2014 | 3:40 PM

The recent winter snow storm has rattled residents in Prince Albert.

900 CKBI’s Meteorologist Henri Dagenais said the weather were currently experiencing is normal for this time of the year.

“The weather is transitioning a lot,” he said. “Prince Albert is on the northern edge of it.”

Being that Prince Albert is at the tip of the storm Dagenais said the snow should clear up over the weekend. He said strong wind is the only issue heading into Saturday and Sunday.

Even though light and fluffy snow can look pretty, he said it comes at a cost.

“With all this wind [there] is going to be a lot of blowing snow,” he said. “The snow is very light so the wind [will easily] pick it up.”

Highway Hotline reports Prince Albert area’s highways reduced visibility and icy/slippery sections for all highways in the Prince Albert area. This means people should avoid travelling on highways this weekend if at all possible.

In La Ronge, Dagenais said they will get no more than 5 centimetres (cm) whereas North Battleford and Saskatoon could get as much as 15 to 20 cm.

Dagenais said the system will gain even more moisture as it moves to the east of the country, meaning they can expect even more snow.

“Most of the snow’s going to be in North Battleford and Saskatoon and going toward Yorkton and then into Manitoba,” he said.
