Local dealership uses social media to give back

As part of a social media campaign, four Riverside dealerships in Prince Albert and Melfort will be donating money and collecting food for the Prince Albert and Melfort food banks. 

For every new page like given to either of the dealerships on Facebook during the time of the campaign, $5, the equivalent of one meal, will be given to the appropriate food bank.   

The campaign began on Nov. 12 at the Riverside Dodge location in Prince Albert and will go until Nov. 28.  The campaign will begin at Riverside Hyundai in Prince Albert, Riverside Arctic Cat and R.V. and Riverside Dodge in Melfort on Dec. 1 and go until Dec. 19.

“It’s important as a dealership, we would like to … try to give back to our community and we thought that this would be a really good way to do that,” said Becky Mihilewicz, social media and website content management for the Riverside Auto Group. “Especially with the holiday season coming up, it’s certainly, I think, a good thing to give back to those that are definitely in need.”

While Riverside Dodge is collecting food in a donation bin at its dealership, Mihilewicz said that for the food bank, a monetary donation is often a more preferable option.  

“They said a lot of the time, people are giving expired food and things like that,” said Mihilewicz. “If they’re running low on something, they can use that money towards purchasing what they need rather than getting food donations of maybe something that they have an abundance of.”

Mihilewicz said this the first time they are contributing to the food bank. 

“The food bank is completely run on community donations and I don’t think that a lot of people really understand that,” she said. “Being that we are a successful business … and we are locally owned, it makes sense to give back to those in our community that may not be as fortunate as we are.”   

Mihilewicz said the campaign has been successful so far and hopes to keep up that momentum through to the end.

“I’m really enthusiastic and I’m hopeful that we hit our 200 for this store and I’m hoping that we can get another 200 for both of the other stores if not more,” said Mihilewicz.  “So, we’re really excited with the success of this promotion.”
