Lazarowich wins P.A. Carlton NDP nomination

Shayne Lazarowich was declared the NDP candidate for the Saskatchewan Prince Albert Carlton constituency after Thursday night’s nomination meeting. 

“I feel very excited and confident about the upcoming election,” said Lazarowich. “I feel very happy and grateful that we had so many people come out to support our candidates here.” 

Justin Gaudet also ran for the nomination and spoke about the need to fight for a free society, public health care, and the importance of building for a better future. 

Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP Cam Broten spoke at the nomination meeting about the importance of people and the potential of Prince Albert.  He emphasized that Saskatchewan will be a better province if people are put first.

“It’s about looking to what kind of city P.A. can be, what kind of province Saskatchewan can be,” he said.

Broten, Lazarowich and Gaudet all spoke about how the Saskatchewan Party has been failing to represent the community and stressed the need for a strong NDP presence. 

“People in Prince Albert have not had their needs and priorities met by this government,” said Broten. “We have seen, I think, a real failure to address the basic and the essential things that families in P.A. need.”

Broten said he believes Lazarowich has what it takes to be a strong NDP voice in the community.

“Shayne’s really plugged in to what’s happening in Prince Albert and what the needs are for families,” he said. “I know his concern really is to make sure that the people in Prince Albert come first.”

Lazarowich said he takes a lot of his inspiration from his grandparents and hopes to continue their vision.

Lazarowich and NDP candidate for the Northcote Constituency, Nicole Rancourt will be running against the Sask Party candidates, Joe Hargrave and Victoria Jurgens, in the next election. 

“I think they’re a great tag team to allow P.A. to have the voice that it deserves and to really and truly put the people of Prince Albert first,” said Broten.

Lazarowich said the first step for him is to meet with his executive and get organized for the campaign.

“We look forward to it,” he said. “We’re going to work really hard.”
