A brand new, 24-unit, apartment building is now open in Nipawin.

There are 14 affordable rental units for individuals and families and 10 market rental units.

The project was an initiative by Nipawin Town Council, to help ease the housing shortage in the community.

The total cost of the project is $3.4 million. The Federal and Provincial Governments contributed a combined total of approximately $560,000.

The 24-unit project will also receive $120,000 through the Government of Saskatchewan’s Rental Construction Incentive. This investment is cost-matched by the Town of Nipawin for a total of $240,000.

Most of the project will be paid for through owner equity and lender financing.

Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback, was on hand for the announcement Friday morning

“Working together is the key to achieve our goal of making more affordable housing available to those in need,” said Hoback. “Projects like Hillside Apartments are living proof that we are on the right track. We appreciate all the partners who made this project a reality.”
