Liam’s “Give a Little Life” Fundraiser

Nov 16, 2014 | 12:07 PM

Liam Cay is a 9 year old musician who has been “busking” for donations to Give a Little Life Day fundraiser for the Nursery and Pediatric Ward of the Vic Hospital since early October, 2014.

To date, he has earned $420 for the worthy cause.

Over the past several years The Victoria Hospital Foundation has seen overwhelming generosity through your support of our Radio-a-thons. Together you have helped to purchase much needed medical equipment for the Victoria Regional Hospital….your hospital.

Give a Little Life will be broadcasted on all three Rawlco Radio – Prince Albert Stations: Today’s Country 900 CKBI, Power 99 FM and Mix 101 FM, and is also carried live on www.paNOW.com, Friday, December 5th, 2014 LIVE from the lobby of the Victoria Regional Hospital 6am – 6pm

This year the fundraising is for the Nursery and Pediatrics Units which are two of the most precious parts of any hospital. And this year, the Victoria Hospital is asking for your help to raise money to upgrade and replace critical equipment for the babies and children in our hospital. They are our ‘littlest patients’ and they deserve the best possible start in life!

Liam was born at 28 weeks at the Victoria Hospital. At 3.5 pounds, he was able to stay at home thanks to the loving and professional care at the Victoria Hospital which made a traumatic and life threatening situation, a success story.

Today, Liam is a healthy 9 year old. Though he suffers with some cerebral palsy, he has found therapy through music. In discussions with his mom, it was decided he would use his gift of music to raise money to help other kids.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. The Victoria Hospital Nursery is capable of delivering and supporting premature babies born as early as 34 weeks.
  2. The Nursery also cares for medically fragile babies that need to spend longer periods of time in our care.
  3. Many pregnant moms have accompanying health concerns that need to be carefully handled to ensure a safe delivery of baby.
  4. The Nursery takes care of a large area reaching to Fondulac, Wollaston and Stoney Rapids. They also support surrounding areas like Nipawin and Melfort for services not available there. Our hospital serves not only Prince Albert, but 40 surrounding communities and RMs and 12 First Nations.
  5. Last year there were 1,550 deliveries in Prince Albert. This number has been increasing by about 50 – 60 births each year since 2006.
  6. Between 1000-1100 children between 0-16 yrs are admitted to our pediatrics unit every year.
  7. For children no longer requiring intensive care support, our pediatric unit enables a high level of care so that families can be together and closer to home as the child spends time recovering.
  8. Our pediatric team cares for families – not only the children. Our team consists of doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers and volunteers.

Friday nights from now until December 5 Liam will be performing at Open Mic at the Flute and Fiddle in Birch Hills and hoping for donations. He is playing three new songs a week on Guitar and Fiddle. Thank you for your support, Liam will be presenting his funds December 5th at the Victoria Hospital during the Radio-a-thon.
