Moose Jaw police arrest woman in theft of poppy boxes
Moose Jaw’s Royal Canadian Legion was happy after a woman was arrested in the theft of two poppy boxes earlier in the week.
“We’re quite pleased that Moose Jaw City police were able to track down someone who’s involved in the theft of our poppy boxes,” said Lloyd Meier, president of the Royal Canadian Legion branch #59 in Moose Jaw.
Moose Jaw police said Angela Orr, 31, was arrested Wednesday. She’s charged with theft under $5,000. She was in court Friday morning and will be in court again November 20.
Meier said he was surprised when he heard about the arrest, “that’s a small crime, I didn’t expect such a fast resolution to it.”
Meier was very happy with the police work and that they were able to get the money back from the stolen boxes, about $40.
“I’ve had people come to me…talking to me about how much in disgust they are about the poppy boxes being stolen.”
Meier said he was also pleased with the support of the community.
“We’ve had a number of people come down to our branch in Moose Jaw to offer additional donations to the poppy fund.”
He said anyone who wants to donate directly to the poppy fund can do so through their local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
