The Saskatchewan Roughriders football team has announced its nominees for the 2014 CFL Awards.

John Chick has earned the nomination for both most outstanding player and most outstanding defensive player. He has started in all 17 regular-season games to date, with 15 quarterback sacks and 10 tackles. Chick was named the CFL’s defensive player of the week three times this season. He was named the league’s most outstanding defensive player in 2009.

Ricky Foley is getting his first Rider nomination for most outstanding Canadian – an award he won in 2009. Foley sits third in the league with 12 quarterback sacks. He was named CFL defensive player of the week twice this season.

Dominic Picard is the Rider nominee for most outstanding offensive lineman.

The team’s nominee for most outstanding rookie is Mark Legree. The defensive back was signed as a free agent in March. He played in 13 regular-season games and is tied for the team lead with four interceptions.

Tristan Jackson has earned his third-career nomination for most outstanding special teams player, having been nominated as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos in 2008 and 2009. Jackson leads the league with 251 yards on eight missed-field-goal returns, including a 111-yard touchdown.

The nominees are selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.

Division winners will be announced on Nov. 13. The 2014 CFL Awards will be handed out on Nov. 27 ahead of the 102nd Grey Cup in Vancouver, B.C.
